Jerome Ghost Town is a great place to learn about the history of Jerome, Arizona. With tours lasting up to an hour and a half, you can get a taste of what it was like in Jerome’s heyday or take a stroll through the town at night to see if you can find any ghosts. Either way, this is not only fun for the whole family but also educational!

You may have to ask yourself that question at the Spirit Room, a bar in Jerome with a reputation for being haunted. The building was built in 1898 and served as a saloon until the 1930s. It’s also rumored to have been a brothel and gambling den. The first story of its ghostly goings-on comes from the owner who found his dog barking at something that wasn’t there. That was followed by other reports of things moving on their own and strange noises coming from empty rooms.
It’s not all spooky, though! The Spirit Room is known for its live music, pizza, and fun atmosphere.
Wine lovers, rejoice: Jerome’s wineries and vineyards are a can’t-miss. The area boasts some of the most beautiful views of Verde Valley, and wine tasting is a great excuse to get out there and see them.
Here’s how to do it right:
To begin with, it’s not actually haunted. It’s a cute little tourist attraction and gallery for local artists that pay for space in the house by creating art within it. If you’re looking to jump out of your skin and pee your pants, I don’t recommend going here. But if you would like an experience that is endearing and informative (and a little quirky), then this is the place to go. This particular evening, the house was filled with poetry readings by locals and music by a local guitarist/singer duo. The vibe was very chill but welcoming, as everyone present was clearly excited about their work, as well as Jerome itself (which seemed to be an especially tight-knit community).
Interested in an off-road adventure? Then the Mingus Mountain Jeep Tour is the Jerome attraction for you. This tour takes a group of six people through some of Jerome, Arizona’s most beautiful and rugged terrain. The trip includes stops at a scenic lake, a ghost town, and the top of Mingus Mountain, which offers stunning vistas of the surrounding area.
The tour lasts about three hours and costs $55 per person. You’ll be whisked away by a guide in an open-air jeep—in other words, dress for the weather! The guide will fill your ears with tons of knowledge about Jerome’s fascinating history and geology along with other fun facts about the Verde Valley region.
Train rides are a fun activity for both kids and adults! In Jerome, you can do train rides as part of a group or as part of a couple. Check out the Verde Canyon Railroad, which is a great place to go on a date, take your family, and/or hang with friends.

Jerome’s charm is in its history, both as a mining town and a hideout for gangsters. The one building that best captures those stories is the Mining Camp Restaurant. Located in an old log cabin of a saloon on the main drag, this restaurant features not only some amazing food but fantastic service to boot.
There are two options for dining: inside or out. Outdoor seating is weather permitting (and snakes permitting; just kidding). There isn’t much of an indoor/outdoor divide though since patio seating wraps around the house and makes it feel like your seat is part of the outdoor scenery. In fact, patios aren’t just on three sides—they are also elevated so you can look down into the restaurant itself. It almost feels like you are sitting in a tree house with table service and steak!
The food here is excellent and diverse, whether you order from their traditional menu or go with their daily specials. I would recommend either option depending on what type of meat sounds good to you! They offer everything from steak to ribs to fish, chicken, salmon—even prime rib! One thing they don’t have on the menu however is apple pie—so BYOAP if that’s what you want for dessert!
Jerome is an excellent place to visit for both locals and tourists.
