Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the US and located in the Colorado River Basin, which makes it a popular destination for water sports and recreation. It was created by the Hoover Dam in 1935, resulting in what was then the largest man-made lake in the world. A visit to Lake Mead offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy its beauty—such as hiking, swimming and boating—but you’re also conveniently close to Las Vegas if you want to get a little city time in too.
The lake itself is beautiful, with clear waters that are perfect for swimming or boating on a hot day. The surrounding desert landscape provides for stunning photo opportunities if you enjoy getting an artsy shot or two while adventuring. For serious hikers, there are plenty of trails around the lake that will provide everything from easy strolls along well-groomed paths to challenging hikes through rugged terrain.
Lake Mohave is a body of water that’s part of the Colorado River, located in Arizona. It’s also one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, and it was my first taste of the Southwest.
Once you have a lay of the land, here are some tips for enjoying yourself:

The surface area of Lake Pleasant covers 10 square miles (26 square kilometers) when full at capacity and its shoreline extends 87 miles (140 kilometers). Water levels at Lake Pleasant vary based on demand by local communities in Maricopa County as well as by agriculture operations in the region.
