Baggin’s sandwich shops in Arizona began with a single cookie. The now-famous chocolate chip cookies that accompany every Baggin’s sandwich were first made by Cheree Garrett-Jeffries in her kitchen. In the early 1980s, Cheree and Jay Garrett returned from a motorcycle trip from Seattle, Washington, with a shared vision of making Cheree’s chocolate chip cookies a Tucson favorite, paired with a menu of wholesome, creatively crafted sandwiches. Their first store, located on Pima Street, sold just 7 sandwiches on the first day. By the next day, that number grew to 15. It wasn’t long before the single shop expanded into multiple locations. Today, Baggin’s prepares thousands of sandwiches—and even more cookies—daily.
Each brown bag delivered is meant to offer something special, whether it’s a go-to lunch during a busy workday, catering for a graduation party, or a reliable dinner option for families. For many Tucson locals, stepping into a Baggin’s store brings back fond memories, whether it’s stopping by the Speedway location while attending the University of Arizona or recalling a first job behind the counter at one of their 12 Arizona locations.
