Phoenix received its first ever NCAA Men’s Final Four basketball championship in 2017. It was a huge success and Phoenix once again put on a world class event for all to see. In July (2018), the NCAA announced that in 2024, Phoenix would once again play host to the Final Four Championship.
It may seem a long way off, but in today’s fast paced world, time does fly by, meaning that 2024 will be here before you know it.
In 2023 it will be Houston. In 2025 it will be San Antonio and for 2026 it’s Indianapolis, but Phoenix is already gearing up for its 2024. The 2017 final four was estimated to have brought in over $324 million in economic impact to the Valley.
The games will be played in Glendale at the Stadium. Other major events, activities and celebrations leading up to the games will be held in downtown Phoenix and across the Valley. The Final Four games (from 2018-2022) have already been set for Minneapolis, Atlanta, Indianapolis and New Orleans.
Phoenix was also awarded another major sporting event. The NFL announced that in 2023 Phoenix will play host to Super Bowl LVII, (57) which will also be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. The economic impact for the Super Bowl in 2023 could easily surpass the 2015 event which generated some $ 700 million for the region. This will be the third time the game will be played at State Farm Stadium. The previous times were in 2008 and 2015. The Super Bowl was played at Sun Devil Stadium in 1996.
Phoenix has evolved into a major market for tourism and national sports events. It’s sunny landscape, hotels and resorts, great shopping, fine dining and world-class sports facilities make it a prime destination.
