Wickenburg is a small town in the desert of Arizona. It has a population of around 6,000 and is located about an hour northwest of Phoenix. The Wickenburg area was first settled by German miners in the 1850s with the discovery of gold deposits. By the end of that decade, there were close to 1,000 people living in Wickenburg. Today, it’s still known as one of Arizona’s most authentic western towns and a true Wild West experience.
The town was named after Henry Wickenburg, who discovered several gold mines in the region in 1863. Since then, people have come from near and far to visit this historic place and catch a glimpse into Arizona’s past.
With its long history as an equestrian community, Wickenburg today is still steeped in cowboy culture – but with all the modern amenities you’d expect from a thriving tourist destination like horseback riding clinics or classic western saloons that serve up some amazing food!

If you enjoy the great outdoors, Wickenburg, Arizona has plenty to offer. The desert landscape is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, jeep tours and horseback riding. If you are a golfer you will find two courses nearby as well as tennis courts.
Wickenburg offers some of the finest trout fishing in the state at its lake parks. There are several lakes close by that allow for canoeing or kayaking if that’s what you prefer over fishing from shore.
In the winter time many visitors like to go snowmobiling on Forest Service roads in the mountains surrounding Wickenburg or take a cross country ski trip through them as well.
Wickenburg restaurants cater to a wide range of tastes and budgets. There are fast food restaurants and family diners, elegant dining rooms at the local hotels and fine steakhouses.
If you go through town in the morning on a weekday, you’ll see a large number of RVs parked along Wickenburg Way. These travelers have been drawn to Wickenburg because it is one of the few towns in Arizona where RV parking is free in town.
